Urban Ag Field Day at Dropseed Farm & Sandhill Farm
Sep 17, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM CT
Online | ISU Urban Agriculture | Free
Learn about two unique farms and their participation in the Dubuque local food system.
What you will learn about:
Local farmers and their firsthand experiences with local markets, using paper chain pots, and managing a Three Sisters interplanted crop trial in partnership with ISU.
Three sisters mounds were recently planted at Dropseed Farm (Sinsinawa, WI). Jess Hepker (owner) is a non-native trying to teach by example how one person can learn from history to imagine a healing landscape.
A paper chain pot transplanting system is an efficient and eco-friendly planting solution using a collapsible tray of paper pots arranged in a honeycomb pattern. Sandhill Farm (Andie Donnan & Ashley Neises) are trying this method and will share their thoughts about the process!
Agenda will also include:
- Tours of both farms
- ISU Urban Ag research and resources
- Q&A with farmers and ISU Extension and Outreach specialists
